Trick or treat – or maybe a fine

ALMOST 7,000 people have been caught without TV licenses in Liverpool this year, it emerged last night.

Details of the defaulters came as TV Licensing announced that it would be calling at homes where residents are suspected of watching the television without a licence on Halloween while children are out trick or treating.

Last Halloween the author-ity caught 60% more people than usual using this method.

TV Licensing warned that people caught without a licence face a fine of up to £1,000.

Charlotte Hancock, TV Licensing spokesperson for the North of England, said: “If a knock at the door sends a shiver down your spine this Halloween, it could be that you’re dreading a visit from TV Licensing.

“This Halloween make sure you’ve got a TV licence and you won’t get an unwanted visit from a TV Licensing enquiry officer.”
