A NOTORIOUS Croxteth eyesore former pub is to be demolished in a bid to help regenerate and improve the neighbourhood.
The Dog and Gun Public House will this week be knocked down after the owners of the property failed to improve, secure or sell the property, which has led to its continual deterioration over the past six years.
Ward councillor Phil Moffatt said: “Since being elected to the council in May, I have worked alongside officers to have this issue attended to once and for all.
“This building has become a blight within our area, and is a constant cause of concern to local residents, who have witnessed the demise of what was once, their local pub.
“The property has become a poor testimony for the past six years in our area and has more than outlived its shelf life.
“The owners have been given enough time and every opportunity to address this issue and they have miserably failed my community.
“Having consistently forced the issue with officers, I have now confirmation that finally this grot spot will be demolished.”
As from October 22, a demolition company was appointed to knock down the former public house.
Mr Moffatt said it will then take approximately six weeks before all the services are disconnected after which the site will be cleared and made available for building purposes.
He said: “This is a positive step forward for our area and we welcome further interest in this site.”
