Store hit in ram-raid

THIEVES who used a stolen cherry-picker to ram-raid an out-of-town store near Chester fled empty-handed, police said last night.

The raid took place at the Costco store on the Dunkirk Trading Estate at Chester Gate, on the outskirts of the city, on Sunday night.

Three men had stolen the cherry picker from the Strawberry roundabout on the A5117 earlier that evening and used it to punch a hole in the side of the store.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said by the time officers arrived the three men had escaped in a silver 5-series BMW and officers are still hunting for the car.
