Town keeps the green flag flying as three more parks gain top award

THREE more parks in St Helens have won national Green Flag status.

It brings the total number of Green Flag parks in the borough to seven.

Taylor Park, The Duckeries at Parr and Downall Croft Doorstep Green at North Ashton have been accorded Green Park status, while those at Bankes Park at Billinge, Clinkham Wood local nature reserve, Siding Lane local nature reserve at Rainford, and Mesnes Park at Newton have been retained.

Cllr Carole Kavanagh, St Helens Council’s executive member for environmental protection, said: “Working alongside local communities has played a large part in our successful Green Flag Award applications and none of this would have been possible without the enthusiasm, dedication and assistance of the Friends of Parks groups, volunteers and the support of our partners.”

The Green Flag award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales.

It was introduced in 1996 as a means of recognising and rewarding the best green spaces provided in the country.
