George the Fat Cat
OVERWEIGHT Liverpool cat George has been chosen by veterinary charity PDSA as one of eight national finalists for its Pet Fit Club.
Eight-year-old George’s owner, Wendy Moulton, 41, re-homed him from a shelter three years ago, and is the first to admit she has spoilt him rotten.
His luxurious lifestyle has gradually caused him to pile on the pounds and at 8kg, he is around 69% overweight.
The PDSA Pet Fit Club is a 100-day diet and fitness programme for pets.
Wendy said: “He refuses to eat cat food apart from some of the more expensive varieties. I’ve always just given him what we are eating – I thought, if it’s good enough for us, it’s good enough for him.”
TV presenter Steve Leonard is on the judging panel and, along with PDSA vets, will monitor all of the Pet Fit Club entrants’ progress.
The pet with the best proportional weight-loss will be crowned PDSA Pet Fit Club champion in January.
Supporters can follow George’s progress on the PDSA website, www.pdsa.org.uk/petfitclub.
