Funeral held for one of the M56 tragedy boys

Guy Davies funeral

The funeral has taken place of one of two boys killed as they crossed a motorway.

Guy Davies, six, and seven-year-old Kieran Coupe were struck by three cars on the M56 close to their homes in Runcorn, Cheshire, last week.

Kieran’s father, Colin Lambert believes the boys strayed on to the carriageway after getting lost in woods as darkness fell.

Guy’s white coffin was carried into Walton Lea Crematorium by his father, also called Guy Davies, and three of his brothers.

His mother Deborah Shrimpton followed with her partner Nick Fazakerley as the Liverpool Football Club anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone, was played.

More than 200 mourners attended the service with many people forced to listen from outside the chapel.

Mr Lambert and members of his family were also present at the private service and a moment of silence was held at the boys’ school, Murdishaw Primary.

Reverend Colin Gordon-Farleigh, who led the service, said Guy was known in the family as Junior.

He said: “Junior was a typical boy - into everything. He loved Spiderman and Batman, and like most boys his age, he loved football.

“Diplomatically, because he wanted to please, whatever team you told him you supported he said was his team as well, although his real love was for the England team.

“Guy was a very creative boy, enjoying drawing and making things.

“To say that he will be sadly missed seems insufficient. I am sure that for his family, especially his mum and dad, not a day will go by without them thinking of him and trying to find answers for the thousands of unanswered questions.”

Guy’s older brother, Christopher, 24, read a poem and the Spiderman theme tune was played to mourners.

The service ended to the Bright Eyes theme song from Watership Down.

Cheshire police say they are still taking witness statements and are keeping an open mind about how the children found their way on to the motorway at 7.30pm on October 24.

Kieran’s funeral will take place on Monday at Murdishaw Church, Runcorn.
