Party in the park for a sparkling – and safe – bonfire night

Fireworks display over the Liver Building in Liverpool

ATTENDING Bonfire Night fireworks displays and events throughout the region this weekend is the best way to stay safe, Liverpool City Council leader Cllr Warren Bradley said yesterday.

In Liverpool, there will be no waterfront display this year but three musical shows will be taking place in Sefton Park, Newsham Park and Walton Park.

The shows, organised by the Liverpool Culture Company and entitled Sparkling Symphonies, will be displays set to a selection of dramatic classical music.

Cllr Bradley, who is also deputy chairman of the Liverpool Culture Company, said: “Tens of thousands of people attend Liverpool’s annual displays, and they really are the safest way to enjoy some spectacular fireworks.

“By staging a selection of big, organised displays at city parks, we are hopefully reducing the risk of tragedies we sadly hear about year after year.”

There is limited parking available at each venue and delays are likely, so visitors are encouraged to walk or use public transport.

Elsewhere on Merseyside, all organised displays on Wirral this year take place at 6.30pm on November 5.

There will be firework displays only at Birkenhead Park; Central Park, Wallasey; Upton Park, Moreton; Lingham Park, Moreton; Mayer Park, Bebington; Mersey Park, Tranmere; and Woodchurch Community Centre.

A full bonfire and firework display will take place at Leasowe Adventure Playground, off Oxley Avenue.

Spark in the Park at Sherdley Park will be St Helens' Council's annual display – the action starts at 6.15pm with a performance from MTV stars Totally Boyband and the fireworks display will start at 8pm. A £3 parking charge applies.

There is a Bonfire Night Spectacular on Saturday night at Gulliver's World Theme Park, Warrington, with visitors promised activities at the theme park from noon onwards.

Also in Warrington, the Park Royal Hotel, Stretton Road, is holding a fireworks extravaganza with mulled wine, a three-course meal, and disco.

Bonfire Night will also be celebrated on Saturday in Victoria Park, Southport. The Hesketh Round Table has organised this year’s event, with all proceeds going to Queenscourt Hospice in the town.
