MOVES to speed up the regeneration of Liverpool’s once forgotten Ropewalks quarter has been demanded in a report to senior politicians.
Ropewalks based around Duke Street has undergone a dramatic trans-formation during the past few years after being virtually untouched for decades.
But a report to the city council’s executive board warns that the pace of renewal in the key gateway area has now slowed.
There are concerns that the regeneration of the area could take several decades to complete if development is not racked up a notch.
The council last night threatened to issue Compulsory Purchase Orders if the owners of buildings in the area will not implement improvements.
Timetables are to be set out detailing when improvements are expected.
Ropewalks is an area with a concentration of 19th century warehouses and merchants houses.
Much of the street pattern is the same today as it was 200 years ago.
