Service tribute to Snowdon fall boy

Friends of Liam Costello applaud in his memory

A SERVICE in memory of a Merseyside schoolboy who died after falling from a mountain in North Wales was held this morning.

Liam Costello, 11, from Childwall, was walking with his father and eight-year-old brother, Tom, on October 26 when he slipped from a ridge on Snowdon and fell 200ft, suffering severe head injuries.

At 11am today, the talented sportsman and Woolton Warriors junior player was remembered during the football team’s training session.

The ceremony included a minute of applause and was conducted by Fr Desmond Keegan, parish priest from Our Lady Bishop Eton church in Wavertree.

The Everton fan’s dad, also called Liam, who set up the junior team, said: “Everybody at the club has been so supportive and I along with my wife Pat and son Tom will be coming to the service to help keep Liam’s memory alive – it is a celebration of his life.

“We are taking each day one at a time.

“About 800 people have come through our door – friends from all over the country – and that has given us the strength to keep going.”

The team’s chairman, Dave Woods, added: “We wanted to remember Liam and thought a service like this was the best way.”
