THE availability of top- class hotel rooms in Liverpool proves the city’s accommodation is just as good if not better than Manchester’s, hoteliers said last night.
Rachel Brown, manager of 62 Castle Street, said there was now a great infra-structure in place in Liverpool.
In fact, the supply of rooms is set to soar from around 2,700 at the end of this year to about 5,000 in 2010, according to projections from the region’s tourism board, The Mersey Partnership.
“There’s a great camaraderie in Liverpool among hoteliers. We can offer just as good if not better than Manchester
The Arena and Convention Centre (ACC Liverpool) which opens early next year will play a major part in providing fresh demand for rooms.
As a group, 17% of Malmaison’s business comes from enter-tainment, media, and sport clients.
“Across the country when bands or sports teams are touring, they tend to stay in our hotels. We are really geared up to it,” said Adam Bell, business development manager at Malmaison.
“In Liverpool, we have really noticed a lack of music artists coming through our doors.
“It is the first time we have operated in a city without an arena or convention centre.”
He said once ACC Liverpool opens next year, it will provide a real boost to business.
