Musical history at the Cavern – but Sir Paul can’t get a babysitter

SIR PAUL McCartney was going to come – but he said he had to baby-sit toddler daughter Beatrice!

Otherwise, some of the cream of Liverpool’s musical talent was at the Cavern Club last night for the relaunch of Wondrous Place, the definitive hist- ory of Liverpool pop music written by Paul Du Noyer.

“Paul said he was sorry he couldn’t make it but it was good of him to say so,” said the 53-year-old writer of the former Beatle, who wrote the foreword to the bestseller first published in 2002.

Its third edition has now been updated to include a final chapter about the Capital of Culture.

“It’s called From The Cavern to the Capital of Culture now,” explained the former NME journalist who grew up in Anfield and Maghull, and who founded the top selling rock music magazine Mojo.

“The new chapter will try to give some meaning as to how important Capital of Culture status is to the city.

“Liverpool pop music continues to still have a big effect on the national pop music scene.”

PAUL DU NOYER will be signing copies of the new edition from 5.30pm on Friday at the Virgin Megastore in Liverpool.
