TRIBUTES have been paid to a seven-year-old boy who died after being hit on the head by a falling goalpost.
The tragic accident happened as Michael Neophytou, of The Northern Road, Crosby, played football in the back garden at his home.
Liverpool fan Michael, one of three brothers, died on October 28 at Alder Hey Hospital. His funeral was last Friday at St Nicholas’ Greek Orthodox Church, in Liverpool.
His father George, 41, said: "Michael was always laughing and smiling. Everyone who met him thought the same. He was a beautiful, special little boy."
His mother, Sally, 39, a Sefton council local government officer, said: " Wherever he went he would make friends, people were drawn to him because he was so friendly.
"I would like to thank everyone for being so supportive."
Michael had just moved up to Forefield Juniors, and his teacher, Sharon O’Brien, said: "He was such a beautiful boy – intelligent, caring, charismatic, charming and witty.
"Most of all he was special. He touched the hearts of all those who knew him."
Lisa Howard, headteacher of Forefield Infants, added: "Michael was a wonderful, sensitive, happy little boy who enjoyed everything school had to offer."
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
