AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of a 15-year-old school girl who was hit by a car in Liverpool.
Sam Power, from Deysbrook, was struck by a dark Audi A4 on West Derby Road, at the junction of Lower Breck Road, Tuebrook, last Monday.
It is thought the Broughton Hall High School pupil was walking back from an organised fireworks display in Newsham Park when the collision happened at around 7.45pm.
She died in Alder Hey Hospital on Thursday night after suffering serious head injuries.
The motorist stopped after the incident and has been helping police with their inquiries.
Broughton Hall head Gerard Murphy said: “We are working with Sam’s family to commemorate her life and contribution.
“She was an important part of the school community and will be greatly missed.
“It is a very sad occasion. Pupils were told about her death on Friday and we are working through the chaplaincy to work with the pupils who are very upset.
“There will be a lot of counselling opportunities put in place for pupils.”
A tribute from school friends posted on the internet reads: “We all love Sam so much.
“She had an amazing personality and a great sense of humour, the one who got on with everyone and always walked round with a huge smile on her face.”
The inquest was opened by the Merseyside coroner yesterday and police are still investigating the incident.
