JMU research rated best in North West

LIVERPOOL John Moores University (LJMU) has been named the number one university in the North West in terms of the impact of its research.

It tops a league table based on the number of research papers published, the global impact that the research has had, the amount of research and contract funding received and the number of PhDs completed.

The table, based on figures compiled between 2002 and 2006, also measured how many times more than the world average that LJMU papers are used and valued internationally, as measured by citations in peer-reviewed journals.

LJMU comes first in the North West and is ranked in the top 20 nationwide out of 135 higher education institutions. It shares the top spots alongside institutions such as Cambridge, Kings College and Imperial College.

Professor Michael Brown, LJMU’s Vice-Chancellor, said: “This league table measures the real impact and value of the research done and not just how much money is spent.”
