Footballer lends a hand to help raise millions for children’s charities

FROM fancy dress to teddybears’ picnics, people on Merseyside spent yesterday finding different ways to help raise millions of pounds for the annual Children in Need appeal.

Liverpool footballer Jamie Carragher officially opened the Alliance and Leicester call centre in Bootle ahead of the evening’s BBC telethon, where staff were taking callers pledges around the clock.

Among some of the unusual activities going on around the region, staff at RNID Typetalk held a Casino Royale-themed evening at the charity’s Liverpool call centre, while Radio Merseyside hosted a day-long teddybears’ picnic in the foyer of the Hanover Street offices.

Liverpool-based actresses Sarah Jayne Dunn and Helen Noble went to visit the Celebrity Scissorhands Academy to support their friend, Hollyoaks actress Carley Stenson, who is taking part in the fundraising show.

Students at the Paul Nicholas School of Acting Liverpool were sponsored for manicure and pedicure treatments.

Pupils at Liverpool College were allowed to break the school rules, eating pizza and wearing wacky outfits, as well as hosting a fashion show auction; and staff from the Royal and Sun Alliance on Old Hall Street took to the streets in fancy dress to raise funds.
