Gold medallist’s masterclass for zoo visitors

OLYMPIC figure skater Robin Cousins yesterday graced Chester Zoo’s winter wonderland.

The gold medallist has got behind this year’s Frost Fair which has a larger ice rink and an array of attractions including a carousel, Santa’s grotto, and festive stalls.

The athletic ice dancer, now famous as head judge on ITV’s Dancing on Ice, took to the ice to give a skating masterclass to 15 competition winners.

Robin won his first national title aged 12 as a novice and represented Great Britain as an amateur skater for eight years, culminating in winning the European Championship gold and the Olympic gold at Lake Placid in the USA in 1980.

His visit to Chester helped support the Zoo’s fair which runs until January 13. Go to www.chesterzoo.org/frostfair
