Bradley outlines leadership vision

LIVERPOOL Council leader Warren Bradley yesterday used a speech to business leaders to speak about his own leadership future.

It was Cllr Bradley’s first major speech since he came under pres- sure from opposition leaders to resign over a secret meeting at his home with former city events manager Lee Forde, who was partly blamed for the cancellation of the Mathew Street Festival.

In the speech at St George’s Hall, he open- ed by saying: “I want to start this morning by giving a reason why I undertake the role as leader of the council.

“Some people think I’m mad; well there’s times that I would agree with you, but then I remember why, it’s not because I have a big ego, or because I’m a careerist politician. Most people under- stand I do it because I feel the city has so much potential and with the correct leadership it can reach for the stars.”

He went on to talk about the millions of pounds being spent to regenerate the city.

When asked later if the opening sector of his speech was his answer to his critics over recent events, he said “No”.

Cllr Bradley originally denied the meeting with Mr Forde took place but later admitted it – he strenuously denies any wrongdoing in inviting Mr Forde to his home in Wavertree.
