Liverpool Council leader aims to save Remploy jobs

LIVERPOOL City Council leader Cllr Warren Bradley has vowed to put forward a “robust business plan” in an attempt to save some of the jobs under threat with the closure of two Remploy factories in Aintree and St Helens.

Yesterday, Cllr Brad- ley said he was “appall- ed” with Government minister Peter Hain for failing to save the Mersey factories.

Speaking at yesterday’s Executive Board meeting he said: “Peter Hain announced he would be saving the factories across the country then makes the announcement that Aintree and Lea Green are to close with the loss of 250, 260 full-time disabled workers from Remploy.

“I think it is deplorable that the Government can act in such a way.”

Remploy factories employ mainly disabled people with help from Government subsidies.
