Woman passenger killed in crash

A WOMAN was killed when the car she was travelling in crashed into a tree in south Liverpool.

Melanie Peters, 25, believed to be from the Woolton area, was a passenger in the car which crashed on Speke Hall Road, at around 4.15am on Saturday.

She was declared dead at the scene. The male driver, aged 26, who has not been named, was taken to hospital.

His condition is said to be “serious but not life threatening”.

Speke Hall Road remained sealed off for much of the day as accident investigators tried to establish what had caused the vehicle to leave the road.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “It has not yet been established what the cause of the accident was.

“No other vehicle was involved. It appears the car left the road, but we do not know why yet.

“Two people were in the vehicle at the time, one of whom, a woman, died as a result of the accident.

“The man in the car is now in hospital.”

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance service said: “We were called to the incident at 4.21am.

“Two paramedic ambulances attended along with a rapid response vehicle.

“There was one fatality at the scene.”
