Merseyside police seize imitation firearms being sold to children

An imitation gun seized by Merseyside Police in the Kirkdale area

POLICE have seized 14 imitation firearms which were being sold to children in the Kirkdale area.

Officers from the Kirkdale Neighbourhood, working with Trading Standards officers, seized the imitation weapons from a shop premises on Stanley Road, Bootle along with a quantity of counterfeit clothing, cigrarettes and tobacco.

In the cellar of the building, which was formerly a public house, officers also found a large quantity of car parts believed to have been stripped from an executive model BMW including doors, seats, dashboard.

Acting Inspector Gerry Brady said: "We received information from the community about the ‘under the counter’ sale of cigarettes and imitation firearms to children. 

"Working with our partners in Liverpool City Council Trading Standards we visited the premises to-day, and the items were seized. 

"Once again this shows that we will act upon information we receive from the community. I would urge  the residents of Kirkdale to contact us at Stanley Road on 0151 777 8658, or use the Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111."
