Bishop’s attack on McDonalds

THE Bishop of Liverpool has spoken out against McDonalds for fining people who stay too long in some of their drive-through car parks.

On Thought For The Day on Radio 4’s Today programme yesterday, Rev James Jones referred to the case of a Sussex man who was fined after taking what he says was an hour to eat his food. He said: “Spare a thought for Jamie Thompson. His crime? Spending too long eating his burger and chips in a drive-through car park.

“My sympathy was grabbed by Mr Thompson’s inability to get anybody to treat him like a fellow human being, the whole thing seems so unreasonable.”

McDonalds say the fines are implemented by private companies to prevent misuse of car parks and they will be flexible over time limits for genuine diners.

Paul Griffiths, who runs three McDonalds in Wirral, said he knew of no plans to bring the system to Merseyside.
