Liverpool players' homes to get club security

Liverpool FC boss Rafa Benitez said today his club has begun searching for security firms to protect the homes of players.

The manager spoke after captain Steven Gerrard became the sixth player to be targeted by thieves while at away games.

The player’s wife Alex Curran, 25, was confronted by four masked men at the couple’s Merseyside mansion on Tuesday as he led his side to a Champions League victory at Marseille.

Questioned by reporters about the burglaries at a press conference at the club’s Melwood training ground, Benitez said: “We are trying to find a solution and we’re checking out security companies.

“We are also talking with police because it is strange what has happened.

“We are keeping in constant touch with Merseyside Police.”

Detectives are linking the Gerrard robbery with attacks on the homes of Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt last month and Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina in May.
