Turner quits waste authority

ONE OF Liverpool council’s main representatives on the Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority has resigned her position.

Last night, the city’s environment leader, Cllr Berni Turner, confirmed she had stood down from the authority.

It is understood Cllr Turner had concerns about the MWDA’s policy of seeking to deal with the region’s waste mountain through incineration.

The MWDA has drawn up a secret plan for two incinerators.

The options are a site next to wood recycling firm Sonae UK on Moss Lane, on Kirkby industrial estate, in Knowsley, and at Gillmoss Transfer Station on Stonebridge Lane, Liverpool.
