TWO schemes supporting disadvantaged children in Merseyside and Cheshire are among those to have received more than £701,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.

The biggest award went to the Fire Support Network Inter Community Street Cage Soccer scheme, which received £297,239 for an innovative project that aims to provide Liverpool youngsters with sporting opportunities and prevent anti-social behaviour.

The new project, aimed particularly at boys aged 13 to 19, will tour the city with two portable soccer cages complete with support posts, sliding panels, and fixed goals.

The Four Estates Limited Grassroots Youth Development Project in Runcorn was given £138,128 for a project aimed at youngsters between seven and 12 who live in extremely deprived areas.

This will develop a programme of educational activities
