A RARE photograph of the last resident of Sudley House went on display in south Liverpool yesterday.
Sudley House now hosts the photograph that is believed to be one of only two of Emma Holt as a child in existence.
Angela Barlow, from National Museums Liverpool, said: “We are delighted to see this fascinating photo- graph on display at Sudley House as it gives a lovely insight into Emma and the Holt family.”
The photo of Emma, the daughter of Victorian ship magnate George Holt, shows her at approximately six years old, dating from around 1868, and offers a unique insight into her childhood.
The photograph was handed down by Julian Holt who died recently and was an indirect descendant of George Holt’s family.
“The picture captures Emma at around six years of age and really adds another dimension to the display in our recently opened Childhood room,” said Angela.
Emma was Sudley’s last resident until her death in 1944, and it re-opened in May, 2007. It contains the only art collection of a Victorian merchant still in its original setting.
Sudley House is based on Mossley Hill Road, Liverpool.
