Carols return to closed church

ORGANISERS of a carol concert in a disused church hope the event will help brighten up Christmas for city centre dwellers.

St James Church, on Upper Parliament Street, has been closed for 35 years but the churches conservation trust now wants it to be put to use.

Rev Neil Short, who has been appointed by the Bishop of Liverpool to set up a new church in the city centre, is holding the event on Saturday at 6pm.

He said: “Everybody is welcome to the service this Saturday – there will be heaters; however, I would advise people to wrap up.”
