City heart centre to change its name

LIVERPOOL’S Cardiothoracic Centre will enter a new stage in its history next year, with a different name and new chief executive.

The centre will be renamed Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, to avoid confusion with Broadgreen Hospital as both are situated on the same site.

During the past 12 months the Trust has consulted with patients, staff and the general public regarding the change of name and the overwhelming majority have supported the proposals.

It is hoped the new name will help make the hospital’s identity clear, and illustrate its work to patients.

And Raj Jain has been appointed as the hospital’s chief executive following the recent retirement of Mike Bone.

Mr Jain has worked in the NHS for 14 years and prior to that in the private sector. He has been director of workforce and service Improvement at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust since 2003.

Trust chairman, Mark Fitzsimmons, said: “2008 will be a very exciting year for our hospital as we progress to become an NHS Foundation Trust and, at the same time, change our name to The Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

“I am looking forward to working with Raj.”
