Doctor asks for diagnosis of NHS

A LEADING doctor took to the streets of Liverpool yesterday to talk to members of the public about possible NHS improvements.

Steven Ryan, a children’s doctor at Alder Hey, asked how people think the NHS can improve as part of the North West’s aim of changing the service from “good” to “great”.

“I wanted people in Liverpool to tell us what is good, what is not so good and what they would like us to focus on and they have been very keen to speak,” he said.

One he met, Laura Cureton, 72, from Wavertree, who had had breast cancer, said: “I think it’s great to be asked what we think, I received wonderful treatment and found it to be a somewhat happy experience which is amazing.’’

Cathy Stuart of the NHS North West Strategic Health Authority said: “We are talking to the public, staff and patients to hopefully make things better and we will continue to do this.”
