Gun gang raids bank

ARMED robbers threatened staff at a bank in Skelmersdale, demanding cash from an ATM.

At just after 5pm on Friday five masked man, armed with what police believe to be a handgun and sledgehammers, forced their way into Barclays Bank on The Concourse.

They threatened staff and demanded an ATM be opened, before making off in a BMW abandoned nearby a short time later.

It is not believed the gang stole anything of value, and police are appealing for witnesses to phone 01695 566042..

Sergeant Daniel Onions from Skelmersdale CID said: “ Fortunately, nobody has been seriously injured, although staff at the bank were left extremely shaken.”
