THE identity of the man who plays one of the most popular characters on children’s TV has been revealed as a key figure in Liverpool’s music scene.
Nick Kellington, 31, plays Igglepiggle in the CBeebies show In the Night Garden, which has become the biggest phenomenon in children’s television since the Teletubbies.
Mr Kellington dons a blue costume to play the character in the show, which is watched by more than 500,000 every day.
However, in real life Mr Kellington, the adopted son of a retired methodist minister, plays the cornet and ukulele in indie band Ella Guru.
Until now he had retained his anonymity thanks to the costume and a dubbed voice.
A spokesperson for the programme’s makers, Ragdoll Productions, said: “All the actors signed confidentiality agreements. We haven’t encouraged them to talk about being on the show.”
