Festive babies prove to be a rare vintage for Christmas Day 2007

THIS year proved a rare vintage for Christmas babies.

Only a handful were born at Mersey hospitals yesterday.

But the joy was just as great.

The first arrival came at 1.05am at Arrowe Park hosp- ital, when baby Alfie was born to Leanne O’Brien, from Eastham, weighing in at 8lb 15oz.

Alfie was shortly followed by the son of Marie Kirk, who was born at 1.33am.

The baby is yet to be named, with Marie, 31, and 27-year-old partner Neil, from Aigburth, saying they were still to decide what would suit him best.

Marie said: “He was due December 18. We’re happy he came on December 25 because I’m originally from Denmark where we celebrate Christmas on December 24.”

Cecelia Ross, 22, from Norris Green, and her soldier husband, Jamie, were overjoyed at the birth of son Christopher.

Cecelia said: “I called him in Iraq. He’s over the moon and can’t wait to get back now.”

Christopher made his appearance into the world at Arrowe Park hospital, in Wirral, at 3.27am yesterday.

New parents Laura Hooson and Glenn McCluskie, from Bootle, were also celebrating the safe arrival of Larna McCluskie, who was born at 4.22am, weighing 6lb 13oz.
