Butchers donate cash to hospices

THE two largest hospices on Merseyside have had a boost to their fundraising.

Crosby-based Jospice, and Marie Curie, Wool- ton, are to receive £35,000 each from the Meat Trader’s Benevol- ent Fund, which no longer operates.

Joe Farley, of the Meat Traders’ Fund, said: “This fund was started in the 1880s, and the monies raised by local independent retail and wholesale butchers. Lifestyles have now changed, and we decided it was the right time to wind the fund up, and donate the money to these two worthy causes.”

Pat Murphy, Director of Fundraising for Jospice, said: “Donations are vital to continue our work in caring for local terminally ill people, and we are so very grateful that such a generous donation has been given to us.”

Another donation has been made to Zoe’s Place, the baby hospice in West Derby.
