Woman bit attacker’s hand as he dragged her into bush

A MAN with bitemarks on his hand is being hunted by police after a woman was attacked on her way to work in Warrington early yesterday.

Women in the town are also being urged by police to “exercise caution” when alone following the assault in which the woman was dragged into bushes by her attacker.

The assault took place as the victim walked along Knutsford Road towards Warrington town centre on her way to work at around 6am.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said: “Suddenly she was grabbed from behind by a man who put his hand across her mouth.”

She was dragged into nearby bushes where the man pinned her down.

However, in the struggle the woman bit the man’s hand, possibly his right, in her attempt to break free.

Eventually the man let go of her and she managed to escape.

Police say the incident has caused them considerable concern, and although the woman was not physically harmed she has been left extremely shaken by the attack.

The man is described as white, in his early 20s and around 6ft tall with an athletic build.

He was wearing a beanie-style hat with a pattern, a waist-length dark coat with a hood and dark blue jeans.

Police also believe he will have suffered bite wounds to his hand and are appealing for anyone who sees someone matching that description to contact them.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said last night: “Police also ask women in the Warrington area to be mindful this occurred, and exercise caution when walking alone, particularly in secluded or dark areas.”

Anyone with information about the attack, or who saw a man fitting the description acting suspiciously in that area early yesterday morning is asked to contact the police.

Information can be passed to the officer in the case, DC Jamie Thompson on 0845 458 0000, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
