Pensioners killed in road accidents

TWO pensioners have died in road accidents over the weekend.

A woman in her 80s was killed in a head-on crash on Telegraph Road, Thurstaston, in Wirral, on Friday night.

And a man died after losing control of his car and crashing into a roundabout in Gateacre, south Liverpool, on Saturday morning.

Police said the woman, from the Hoylake area, was driving a Nissan Micra when it collided with a Skoda Fabia at 10pm.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Skoda driver and his male passenger suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed overnight.

In Gateacre, police said the man, in his 70s, was driving a Ford Focus when it left Woolton Hill Road.

The man, not named, was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital, but died a short time later.

Witnesses to the accident, at the junction with Gateacre Brow, at 11.40am, are asked to contact police.
