City centre takeaway is fined £3,000 for being dirty

A FILTHY city take-away was fined £3,000 yesterday for posing a serious risk to public health.

Li Guo Li, owner of Alan’s Kitchen, in Kensington, pleaded guilty at Liverpool Magistrates Court to four offences under food hygiene laws.

When environmental health officers visited the kitchens, they found contaminated left-over food in prep-aration areas and cooked chicken lang-uishing in putrid dishes. The ceiling of the main food prepar-ation area was so damaged it was beyond effective cleaning and posed a risk of dripping “particles” into food and walls and floors were caked in years of grease and dirt.

There were also concerns that rats could have got into the kitchen through a hole in the back door.

Officers made an unannounced inspec-tion on July 23, 2007.

Liverpool city council’s executive member for the environment, Cllr Berni Turner, said: “This prosecution sends a strong message to other food outlets in the city that we will not tolerate businesses who pose a risk to public health.”
