THE Liverpool 08 crew were narrowly beaten by New York in the latest leg of the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race from Fremantle to Singapore.
Clipper chairman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston will fly to Singapore today following his accolade as the Raymarine/YJA Yachtsman of the Year.
The award was made after his exploits in last year’s single-handed around the world race.
On receiving the award at a gala luncheon in the Painted Hall, Greenwich, yesterday, Sir Robin said: “I wasn’t expecting this, it has come as a complete surprise.
“It is the UK’s top yachting trophy and something I’m very proud of winning.”
The Clipper fleet’s arrival in Singapore will be part of the glittering opening ceremony for the new Marina at Keppel Bay.
