Government’s recognition for airport’s achievements

JOHN Lennon Airport is celebrating a milestone after public recognition of its achievements from the Government.

Transport secretary Ruth Kelly has said Liverpool Airport offers passengers a “real choice”, and as a result has decided to lift a cap on the charges Manchester Airport can issue to airlines.

Currently, Manchester’s charges are regulated by the independent regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), but the Government is now satisfied enough healthy competition is present within the region to end this regulation.

In the past 10 years John Lennon Airport (JLA) has seen an eight fold increase in passenger numbers to today’s record of 5.5 million annual passengers.
