Police seal off scene of unexplained death in flats

AN INVESTIGATION was launched after the body of an elderly man was found at a flat in Aigburth.

Police were called to the flats complex in Ivanhoe Road shortly before 4.30pm yesterday, where they found the man’s body.

It is being treated as an unexplained death and the scene, close to Lark Lane, was sealed off for forensic investigation.

Last night several police officers were at the flats complex, searching the rear of the property with torches.

A Home Office post mortem is due to be held today.

In a separate incident, a 30-year-old man is being treated in hospital after being shot in the left eye with what police believe was an airgun in Langton Road, Kirkby, at 4.30pm.

The man, from Birmingham, was with a friend picking up a van he had bought, when the incident happened.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said the shooting is believed to be a random attack. Officers have carried out house-to-house enquiries in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police’s guncrime hotline on 08004581211 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
