INVESTIGATIONS are being carried out at the Countess of Chester hospital to help shed light on how a doctor mistakenly gave possible cancer sufferers a clean bill of health.
The mistakes were made at Wrexham Maelor hospital and relate to tissue samples “reported on” by pathologist Roger Williams from April 2006 to September 2007.
At least 12 patients were given inaccurate findings.
Pathologists at the Countess are assisting in carrying out a clinical review of a sample of his work.
Officials at the hospital say it is very unlikely Chester residents will be affected but people who have concerns are advised to phone a helpline number.
A total of 4,500 cases are being reviewed by Wrexham Maelor hospital.
Dr Williams, 64, retired from the trust three years ago but continued to work as a clinician part-time.
He immediately resigned when the mistakes were discovered.
ANYONE who is concerned should contact the helpline on 01978 726155.
