A RUNAWAY driver abandoned a critically injured toddler in a 4x4 after careering over an embankment in Cheshire yesterday afternoon.
The three-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries in the crash and was taken to Warrington Hospital.
But the driver fled the scene on foot towards Warrington.
Last night, police were hunting the driver and appealed for witnesses of the crash to come forward.
The black Suzuki Vitara veered off Chester Road, Daresbury, at 2.15pm.
Cheshire police described the smash as a “serious traffic collision”.
A Merseyside Regional Ambulance trust spokesman said paramedics could not find a child seat in the vehicle.
The toddler was said to be comfortable in Warrington Hospital last night
