Flood alerts are lifted by agency

THE Flood Watch alerts for parts of north Merseyside were lifted yesterday following some of the worst flooding seen in the region for around 30 years.

The Environment Agency (EA) put the warning in place for the River Alt and other watercourses from Huyton to Hightown, including Kirkby, Fazakerley, Maghull, Formby, Aughton, Sefton and Lunt.

An EA spokeswoman said that they had not received any reports of flooding from rivers in the area yesterday, although there was a possibility that some people might have experienced flooding from surface water.

She added: “It’s important for people to find out whether their property is at risk from flooding.

“They can do this by contacting the EA floodline on 0845 988 1188.”
