A FRESH plea was made to the Justice Minister to intervene in Michael Shields’ bid to overturn his sentence yesterday.
A dossier of new evidence was passed to Jack Straw containing previously unheard testimony from two witnesses.
The results of Shields’ lie detector test – which appear to show he did not attack Bulgarian barman Martin Georgiev – were also given to Mr Straw.
Liverpool Riverside MP Louise Ellman and Cllr Joe Anderson spoke to Mr Straw for an hour about the new evidence.
Mrs Ellman said: “I thought it was very positive. He said he would explore all avenues.
The 21-year-old was jailed for the attempted murder of the barman in 2005.
