Operation finds defects in taxis

A CRACKDOWN on taxis operating in Wirral revealed 35 out of 55 stopped had defects.

The operation on Wednesday, January 23, involved police, Wirral council’s Taxi Enforce-ment Department and the Vehicle and Opera-tor Services Agency.

Neighbourhood Inspector Kate Cunningham said: “We will continue to work with Wirral Council to ensure that people can use taxis on Wirral with confidence in the safety of the vehicle and knowing the drivers are properly licensed and regulated.

“We have been policing taxis in Wirral for over two years now and I am pleased to say that fewer and fewer serious offences are being found.

“I would ask passen-gers to be patient if their taxi is stopped in one of our operations – it really does make a difference.”
