House landlord fined £2,800

A MERSEYSIDE landlord who allowed a family to live in a dangerous house has lost her appeal against a £2,800 fine.

A judge at Liverpool Crown Court dismissed the appeal by Evelyn Gwyneth Walker, who didn’t attend the hearing and imposed £200 costs to St Helens Council who brought the case against the landlord from Conway, North Wales.

At the original hearing the court heard how Walker had allowed a mother and her three young children to live in a dangerous house in Clipsey Lane, Haydock.

The family had suffered a freezing winter with no central heating, extreme damp and lived with smashed windows and exposed wiring and electrical components.

The conditions were so bad the family were forced to move out.

In November last year, Walker pleaded guilty to non compliance with a Housing Act 2004 Improvement Notice.
