A SCHOOL dinner lady has admitted fraudulently claiming up to £80,000 in benefits.

Kim Toner received thousands of pounds in benefits – including disability allowances – over more than five years while working at St Edmund of Canterbury Catholic High School in Knowsley.

The 49-year-old, of Lyme Cross Road in Huyton, claimed about £80,000, however Liverpool Crown Court heard she may have been entitled to some of the money.

Toner had initially been receiving benefits legitimately as she was unable to work due to back problems.

But when she began her job at the school in 2001 she failed to tell the authorities and continued to claim a string of benefits.

Yesterday she admitted five counts of failing to notify the authorities of a change of circumstances.

The charges relate to Toner claiming various incapacity and disability benefits and allowances between 2001 and 2006, and housing benefit and council tax relief between 2005 and 2006.

She will be sentenced on March 14.
