ANOTHER four months of roadworks on the Strand in Liverpool city centre are scheduled to start on Monday morning.
They will be the final phase of alterations to the road and should finish in time for the opening of the first part of the Liverpool One development.
The latest works on the Strand centre on the James Street junction.
Two “supercrossings” are being built, which should give pedestrians more time to cross the road from Pier Head.
Improved street lighting is also being installed.
During the works traffic will not be able to turn off the Strand onto Mann Island and vehicles from the north will be able to access the Pier Head area via Brunswick Street.
There will also be a number of lane closures throughout the work.
Cllr Mike Storey, executive member for regeneration, said: “This work is needed as the new crossings replace the footbridge which was removed before Christmas and we are seeking balanced forms of transport in the city centre, meeting the needs of motorists, public transport and pedestrians.
“This is the final phase of the major works on the Strand.’’
Workmen will be on site round the clock in an attempt to complete the work by the end of May.
