Tunnel tolls
MOTORISTS driving cars through the Kingsway and Queensway tunnels will pay 10p more for each journey from April.
Charges for cars will rise from £1.30 to £1.40 after Mersey Travel Passenger Authority voted through the increase this afternoon.
In a tight vote at the authority’s headquarters in Hatton Garden, Liverpool six councillors voted in favour, four against and eight abstained.
At the same meeting councillors also agreed to increase the authority’s levy on the councils that support it by 4%.
The new charges for the tunnels are as follows:
Class 1, including cars and motorbikes with sidecar, rising from £1.30-a-journey to £1.40.
Class 2, covering small goods vehicles and small coaches, jumping from £1.30 to £2.80.
Class 3, applying to goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and passenger vehicles, increasing from £3.90 to £4.20.
Class 4, covering heavy goods vehicles, rising from £5.20 to £5.60.
