Courts may strip drug gang of assets

SIX members of an international drug-smuggling gang could be stripped of their profits.

A gang of 20 was jailed for a total of more than 200 years in July 2006.

The smugglers flooded Britain with millions of pounds worth of cocaine and heroin, using a legitimate construction business as a front.

Now six members of the gang face losing everything, following a police search through their assets.

John Mullally, formerly of Rutherford Road, Mossley Hill, and David Baker, of Inchcape Road, Broadgreen, were identified as having key roles in the gang.

They will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on March 25 to face a proceeds of crime hearing, where they could be stripped of their assets.

Keith Burke, of Quebec Quay, Liverpool, who set up the front for the business, will appear before the courts the same week.

A further three members – Russell Burke, formerly of Strathmore Road, Tuebrook, Christopher Burke of Babbacombe Road, Childwall, and Jeanette Burke, of Old Hall Street, Liverpool, who provided the business acumen and dealt with the finances – face hearings in June.
