Liverpool city council named as worst in country

breaking news

SEFTON was Merseyside’s biggest success story - the only North West council up from three to four stars.

The Audit Commission said it was improving more quickly than most other councils and praised its current service review designed to cut costs and improve services.

A cleaner environment, better recycling, anti-bullying work, improved exam results and falling crime rates were all applauded.

Council leader Tony Robertson said: “It is not easy to make such a significant improvement to public services.

“But an incredible amount of hard work has gone into making sure we do the best possible job for our residents.

“Being a four-star authority is not just about wearing a badge of honour or having another tick in the box. It is proof and reassurance we are delivering for our residents and continuing to move in the right direction.”
