Liverpool city council named as worst in country

WIRRAL was given two stars for the third year in a row - but saw some of its departments’ individual ratings fall.

The environment and housing departments both dropped a star although benefits went up one.

The Audit Commission is now reviewing its progress over the past year.

Council leader Steve Foulkes said: “I am delighted to receive this official recognition that many council services are continuing to get better.

“Our staff work in a challenging environment with higher public expectations and increasing demand for council services.

“The Audit Commission’s report has identified some areas for improvement which we will be working on over the next 12 months.”
